FAYETTE COUNTY, Pa. -- A Fayette County student was suspended after she said she punched a classmate who called her a racial slur.

The girl said she had complained about the student to school officials before, but he was not disciplined.

Toreah Wakala attends Laurel Highlands High School. Wakala said she was given a three day suspension for punching another teen in the face after she said he called her the "N" word.

Wakala said the principal told her that the boy would also be suspended, but they later learned the boy was still in class on Tuesday.

"It hurt to be called that by someone your own age," Wakala said.

The superintendent of the school released a statement saying, "I do not condone any language like that and neither does the district. We are looking into the incident."
